1st SUNDAYS:
First experience sewing, or need a thorough brush up? A prerequisite for anyone who would like to take any construction workshops but hasn't yet sewn! This fun class engages beginners in a rule-free top stitching process to get used to the machine, and adds a few easy steps to learn inverted construction, installing a zipper, and flipping a narrow hem for the strap so you can walk off with a choose-your-own-adventure custom zip purse, fannypack or wrist clutch, all while studying sewing machine and stitch anatomy, trouble shooting, construction, and applications for various machine feet. Perfect for newbies looking for a positive first-experience or learned sewers wanting to brush up! Bring your own machine, or use one of many on site. All materials included!
Join Madam Chino in Open Sewing Lab for advice on your project, minimum of 4x4 table top space to spread it out, access and instruction on a full range of industrial machines, large ironing stations, and basic supplies such as 18"x18" fabric swatches, a wide variety of threads, sewing machine feet, heat and bond applique, interfacing and elastics, plus tools like large cutting mats, fabric scissors and hand needles to start/work on/finish projects, dress forms, quilting tables as well as additional stock to purchase extra materials. Bring your own fabrics or patterns for large or specific projects. Perfect class for intermediate sewers with basic machine knowledge who are self-motivated to do a special project but would like access to new machines, advice, or to sew with others! Questions? Monthly wacky scrap sewing classes are perfect for beginners or anyone who loves free-style top-stitch sewing, using scraps and wants to improve their construction techniques. Create your own zany scrap attached fabric using applique and surface design techniques and turn them into a variety of household items. Each month pick a new utilitarian project for household use! At least 5 pattern options are offered thematically each week in a guided, yet, choose-your-own adventure sewing experience! Want to incorporate your own recycled materials? Bring your old items to cut down and construct with for a finished heirloom item!

Monthly improvisational scrap sewing classes are perfect for beginners and intermediate sewers who love free-style sewing and want to improve their construction techniques. Set to sewing right away to create your own whole cloths from scraps using improvisational patchwork techniques and turn them into a variety of household items. Each session, partakers choose from several projects in a guided, yet, choose-your-own adventure sewing experience! Want to incorporate your own recycled materials? 3rd SUNDAYS:
Pile together and port your rips, popped buttons or broken zippered items for repair! Learn and implement darning techniques for proper patching, replace jean and jacket zips, machine sew your buttons back on in this clothing restoration focused class. If you are interested in alterations, as opposed to repairs, please join "MEASURE UP! Alterations Club" on 3rd Sundays from 5-8pm! Tools and supplies as well as jean zips, applique, and patch material included in class, limited supply of jacket zippers available for purchase or bring your own! Cull your closet and compile a list of items you want to alter for a better fit! Crop your shirts? Hem your pants or add some length? Taper your pants or add some bells? Raise the waistline, take up at the shoulders? Change the shape altogether? Use this opportunity to pin up, stitch out, and alter your fave things so you can love them again, in the company of friends and the right tools and advice to keep the garments original integrity. Access to blind hemmers, sergers, bias edging, cover hemmers, and a plethora of household machines, irons, steamers, sleeve ironing boards, and threads to match your garments. Finish as many garments as possible within the timeframe! Partakers who use industrial machines MUST take all safety precautions and agree to hold Madam Chino harmless in any case of injury!

4th SUNDAYS:

STUFFED TOY BIRTHDAY PARTY!
Celebratory sewing fun for family and friends! Book a Birthday Party at Madam Chino for your child and up to 10 kids! Kick the party off by decorating party hats with fabric markers and handmade pompoms, then they will design, stuff and style an existing muslin animal of your choice of owl, bunny, snake, car, or doll using polyfil, googley eyes, yarn, hot glue, felt, applique and fabric markers. Before finishing, each child will ceremoniously place a HEART and note with the initials of the birthday kiddo and their friend into the figure, and hand sew it closed using a ladder stitch. No sewing experience required!
BABY SHOWER
Create lasting, useful memories together for child and mommy! A party experience that allows groups to work together to create useful gift items for the new mother while celebrating the baby! A great opportunity for individuals of all skill levels to learn sewing on the fly, cut patterns, sew and trim in the company of their friends! Choose from any baby-oriented patterns and with the help of your instructor, make as many as possible in the timeframe from existing patterns and fabrics: Baby bibs, burp cloths, crib blankets, stuffed toy mobiles, diaper covers, stuffed animals, stuffed blocks, baby booties and a baby swing! Sewing experience not required but helpful!
Sunday March 22nd 5-8pm
Come together with like-minded friends to make your two "brown paper bag" style grocery tote bags from an assortment of beautiful upholstery fabrics, and as many muslin drawstring produce bags and beeswax coated snack wrappers as possible in your 3 hour class up to 10 of each per person!
